Beyoncé Knowles and Kelly Rowland Build Supportive Housing In Hometown

Beyoncé and Kelly Rowland are collaborating with Harris County and the nonprofit Bread of Life, Inc. to develop the Knowles-Rowland House, an $8.4 million permanent supportive housing complex in Midtown Houston.

The project is an adaptive reuse of the former Knowles-Rowland Center for Youth, which is being converted into 31 permanent efficiency apartment'for individuals who have experienced chronic homelessness. Construction is expected to be completed in the summer of 2026. 

The facility is designed as a "survivor kit" to provide more than just shelter. Residents will have access to on-site wraparound services to ensure long-term stability, including a mental health counseling, substance abuse treatment, and physical health services.

Dedicated case managers, peer specialists, and life skills training.

Transportation assistance and 16 units specifically designed for individuals with mobility or sensory impairments. 

The project represents a full-circle moment for the artists, as the original center was built in 1999 using earnings from Destiny's Child's first hit single, "No, No, No". After the building suffered damage from Hurricane Harvey in 2017 and a fire in 2021, the decision was made to repurpose it into housing. 

Funding for the redevelopment is primarily provided through: Federal Funding The amount of $7.2 million from the American Rescue Plan Act, authorized by the Harris County Commissioners Court.

The remaining $1.2 million is being raised by Bread of Life, with contributions from the artists and other groups like Rice University.
