Documentary Special ‘Living Proof,’ Produced by Sheryl Lee Ralph & The DIVA Foundation

Living Proof is a compelling new documentary special executive-produced by Emmy-winning actress, producer, and advocate Sheryl Lee Ralph and The DIVA Foundation. The project highlights the often-overlooked experiences of Black women with HIV in mainstream narratives.

Set in Atlanta — a central location in the Southern HIV epidemic — the documentary follows Freda Jones and Kennedi Lowman, co-founders of LOTUS (Loving Ourselves Through Unity and Strength). Their grassroots organization is transforming how Black women discuss, confront, and build community around HIV. From support groups to open dialogues about prevention and PrEP, Living Proof captures the strength of sisterhood, healing, and shared leadership. The film also explores the systemic barriers Black women face, including medical discrimination, stigma, and diminished public health funding. Through Jones and Lowman’s efforts, the documentary demonstrates how Black women are reclaiming their stories, independence, and wellness.

Living Proof is a follow-up to the 2X Emmy-nominated 2023 World AIDS Day Special “Unexpected,” produced by Sheryl Lee Ralph, that centered on black mothers living with HIV who created a community of support for mothers and children.

Directed by Zeberiah Newman, the project is executive produced by Sheryl Lee Ralph, Zeberiah Newman, Michiel Thomas, and Norman Lee, with music supervision and score by Emmy and Grammy-nominated composer B.Slade. Living Proof is a collaboration between The DIVA Foundation, Gilead Sciences, and OraQuick in partnership with ABC Owned Television Stations.
