Mary J. Blige’s “Be Happy” Set To Premiere On Lifetime Television
The Lifetime movie inspired by Mary J. Blige's song "Be Happy" is titled Mary J. Blige Presents: Be Happy.
The film is an original story and not autobiographical, though it is inspired by Blige's 1994 hit song "Be Happy". It marks the directorial debut of Oscar-nominated actress Gabourey Sidibe.
The story follows 50-year-old Val (Tisha Campbell), a stay-at-home mom experiencing empty-nest syndrome and a growing emotional distance from her husband, Ross (Russell Hornsby). A trip to New Orleans to help her pregnant daughter (Zing Ashford) reawakens Val's buried dreams and passions, leading her to questio1n her life choices and whether it's ever too late to choose herself. The movie stars Tisha Campbell, Russell Hornsby, Mekhi Phifer, and Zing Ashford.
Mary J. Blige serves as an executive producer through her Blue Butterfly Productions, in collaboration with Mona Scott-Young for Monami Productions.
