Muni Long’s Remarkable Road to Recovery From a Life-Threatening Diagnosis

Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Muni Long is sharing one of the most personal and inspiring chapters of her life. Known for chart-topping hits such as Made For Me and her powerful songwriting career, the singer recently revealed that she underwent a life-saving double lung transplant after doctors informed her that she had only one week to live without the procedure.

Long, who was diagnosed with lupus in 2014, had been quietly battling serious health challenges while continuing to perform. During Brandy and Monica's 2025 The Boy Is Mine Tour, she developed pneumonia and experienced worsening respiratory complications. Despite her determination to push through, her condition became increasingly severe, eventually forcing her to leave the tour early.

After returning home for Thanksgiving, Long was rushed to the hospital, where doctors delivered devastating news: without a double lung transplant, she had only days to live. The singer admitted she was shocked by the diagnosis and initially struggled with the decision. As a vocalist whose career depends on her voice, she worried about what the surgery could mean for her future in music.

Ultimately, thoughts of her young son and her desire to continue living a full life helped guide her decision. "Quality of life was first," she explained during a recent television interview. Her choice would prove to be lifesaving. Today, approximately six months after the transplant, Long reports that she is doing exceptionally well. She has shared that she is symptom-free, infection-free, and continuing to make significant progress in her recovery. In addition to the lung transplant, she also underwent vocal surgery and is working closely with medical professionals to monitor her healing and vocal health.

Perhaps most encouraging for fans, Long says her voice has changed in a positive way. While she is still determining when she will be ready to return to the stage, she remains optimistic about the future. She recently released new music and is embracing this new chapter with gratitude and renewed purpose.

Muni Long's journey serves as a powerful reminder of resilience, faith, and perseverance. Her willingness to share her story has not only inspired fans around the world but has also brought awareness to lupus and the serious health complications that can accompany autoimmune diseases.

As she continues her recovery, one thing is certain: Muni Long's greatest comeback may not be a chart-topping hit, but the extraordinary strength she has shown in reclaiming her life and health.
