Netflix Is Officially Reviving A Different World
Netflix has officially *greenlit a sequel to the iconic 1990s sitcom A Different World. Rather than a full reboot, it’s being described as a continuation of the original story set decades later at Hillman College.
The new show will be a 10-episode, single-camera comedy streaming on Netflix. The story follows Deborah Wayne (played by Tony Award winner Maleah Joi Moon), the daughter of Whitley and Dwayne, as she begins her freshman year at Hillman. It blends a new generation of students with callbacks to the original world of Hillman College.
Several beloved original cast members are reprising their roles and will appear in the new series
Returning legacy cast
Jasmine Guy as Whitley Gilbert Wayne, Kadeem Hardison as Dwayne Wayne, Darryl M. Bell as Ron Johnson, Cree Summer as Freddie Brooks
These actors are set to return as recurring characters, reconnecting audiences with their classic roles while supporting the new story centered on the next generation.
Felicia Pride (showrunner) and Debbie Allen (executive producer and directing several episodes) are leading the creative team. Filming is scheduled to take place in Atlanta in early 2026. A premiere date has not yet been announced.
